Vigil Nominations By April 1

It is once again the time of year to select fellow lodge members for recognition by means of the Founders Award and Vigil Honor. Your assistance is needed in the selection of qualified and deserving Arrowmen for these recognitions!
The Founder’s Award – is reserved for those individuals who personify the spirit of achievement as displayed by OA founders E. Urner Goodman and Carroll Edson. It was created to recognize and honor Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge. Both youth and adults may be nominated for this award. Nominations should thoughtfully describe the nominee’s service to the Wag-O-Shag Lodge and why they deserve recognition with the Founder’s Award. Some questions to think about include: In what manner, capacity, and/or positions has the individual served? Have they been active within the chapter level or on lodge committees? If an adult, how have they served the youth? The
more information you include, the better our youth will be able to evaluate candidates at the selection Meeting.
Vigil Honor – is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions above and beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office in one or more of the following: their troop, their lodge, the Order of the Arrow at large, their Scout camp, or Scouting at large.
Both youth and adults may be nominated for this award as well. Attached to this letter is a list of lodge Arrowmen who meet the eligibility requirement of at least two years of Brotherhood membership. Additionally, payment of lodge dues for the 2017 calendar year is necessary in order for eligibility to be maintained. Please think about your interactions with scouts and scouters and consider writing nominations for those you feel should be recognized with the Vigil honor, according to the standards mentioned above. Inclusion of details such as organization/committee involvement, positions held, and time involved/volunteered is greatly encouraged.
Suggestion of one or more respectful American Indian names that suit the candidate’s qualities, traits, and talents is a useful inclusion. If you are not fluent in Lenni-Lenape the word list in the OA Handbook appendix is a useful reference. Youth present at the selection meeting may not know your nominee as well as you do so well written, detailed letters are very helpful in the process of making informed decisions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to reflect on your scouting experience and give recognition to the scouts and scouters alike who have been outstanding role models! For your convenience, nominations may be submitted by the following methods:
Email- directly in text or a Microsoft Word document as an attachment to oanominations@gmail.com.

Mail- Attn: Vigil and Founder’s Nominations
804 Bluemound Road
Waukesha, WI 53188-1698

** All nominations, both email and letter, must be received no later than
March 31st . **

All Arrowmen are encouraged to submit as many nominations for different eligible candidates as they see fit. Non-eligible youth Arrowmen are invited to attend the Vigil Selection meeting and take part in the selection process! The Meeting will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, April 1st at the Council Service Center. Adults will not be able to attend the meeting.
Attendance at the meeting will be restricted to youth only. It is a great opportunity for involvement in Lodge leadership as Arrowmen are selected as our 2016 Founder’s Award and Vigil honorees. Your input is vital to our discussion of the many fine individuals within our Lodge that have such a positive impact on Scouting and the Order of the Arrow.

Unit Award of Excellence for 2016

Each year the Lodge and the National Lodge of the Order of the Arrow like to reward and recognize those units who work hard to include the Order of the Arrow part of their yearly program.  National made an award that has been around for a few years, but we are really trying to push for more units to be recognized this year.  This year the number of units who earn this award also counts to our Journey to Excellence.  Please take some time to pint and review this form with your unit.  If you meet the qualifications you can drop the form off at the office or email the Lodge Adviser, Brad Singer, at bradleytsinger@gmail.com with a scanned copy.
